TXOMIN ETXANIZ

TXOMIN ETXANIZ

Chacolí de Guetaria is a tiny DO centred around the Basque medieval fishing town of Guetaria, situated 25 minutes west of San Sebastián.

Txomin Etxaniz is owned by the Chueca (or Txueca) family and the main man here is Ernesto, a mega jovial character who religiously believes that anything Basque is better!!

Chacolí is all too often an exercise in indigestion given the high acidity of the (white) Hondarribi Zuri and the main reason that Ernesto’s wine is so drinkable is the small percentage of (black) free run, low alcohol Hondarribi Beltza that it contains, which rounds the wine out and makes it so pleasurably balanced.

Txomin Etxaniz has a vivid lemon flavour, together with maritime nuances, is slightly spritzy, and although at its zestiest consumed as young as possible, develops intriguing tropical notes such as papaya with a year or so in bottle, and has notable acidity.
